Volunteering with Kindness

Giving back isn’t always as simple as walking into a place, slapping on a VOLUNTEER lanyard, and getting to work. It’s about extending kindness that goes beyond a few hours of community service. It’s the kind of caring that is more than giving your time but giving your heart. Each place has its requirements but kindness goes in a little extra. Like, of course there are rules and they are in place for a reason. To learn the needs of the people you are serving and the wants of the organizations that serve them. However, it’s very important to respect those we serve and those we are serving for. Kindness is never taking for granted the process, or walking in assuming we know better. When you really know someone and what they need, you go a little extra hard to listen to them, understand their mission, and make sure they are taken care of and they are treated right. This type of care extends to the same handling we should have with everyday people and relationships. There is no one size fits all, in reality. Everyone comes with their own experiences, expectations, and realities. Listen to their needs. We do everyone a disservice when we just assume we know. Always learn the rules and background, respect the process, and the people on the other side of it. When people know you care enough to learn about them and what they care about, they reciprocate and that is how kindness continues and becomes infectious. Join us this holiday season and beyond as we come alongside Baxter Community Center to help service the needs of our neighbors. Click on the links below for volunteer opportunities:
