Overcoming the “Dis”, Together

Great things happen when we work together! On Saturday, June 14th, Dr. Kimberly Barrington, military veteran and Disability Advocates’ Champion came to speak with our group about Overcoming the Dis! She had everyone in tears and excited about the future. However, the most fascinating thing about her visit wasn’t what she said, as much as what she did and how she helped All Of Us overcome. a challenge together. We found out that the handicapped ramp we have in our church was not efficient for getting her into our building. She was so excited and determined to speak with our group she requested to be wheeled down our wide steps. One of the workers at our facility, Charles, gladly and eagerly obliged. However, it was when she was leaving that the biggest hurdle occurred. Charles was having a hard time trying to get her up the steps alone. One of the ladies suggestedsome of us come and lift her up the steps together. It was an amazing feat. We got the job done and we sealed our success with a kiss. Dr. Kimberly was very patient, kind, and forgiving, and we also saw firsthand that we can overcome anything, together.
