Shanda Powell

Shanda Powell is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is a mother of 2 adult children and one teenager. She is a member of a local urban church ministry in her community. She has a career in Child Services under the State of Michigan, where she is a Family Engagement Specialist. Before her experience in child services, she spent several years as a childcare worker for the Grand Rapids Public Schools in the Autism Program.

Shanda’s advocacy for young people is a gift. Shanda believes that pouring into young people's lives is an expression of being the village our youth need.

"Ushering our youth into adulthood is imperative, but it starts with how our urban community shows up for our youth. Our presence and actions affect their lives, causing our youth to become healthier as they navigate life."
